Dr. M. Vidyasagar

Dr. M. Vidyasagar is the head of the Advanced Technology Centre and received his Ph D degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Wisconsin at Madison, USA in 1969.  For the next twenty years, until 1989, he was a Professor of Electrical Engineering, specializing in the area of control theory. His last overseas position was at the University of Waterloo, Ontario, Canada. In addition, he has held visiting positions at prestigious institutions such as Berkeley, UCLA, MIT, Minnesota, and Tokyo Institute of Technology. In 1989 he returned to India as the Director of the Centre for Artificial Intelligence & Robotics (CAIR), a laboratory under the Ministry of Defence. In 2000 he joined Tata Consultancy Services as an Executive Vice President in charge of developing advanced technologies of relevance to the overall business areas of TCS.

In his research career, Dr. Vidyasagar has made many fundamental contributions in the areas of control theory, neural networks, and statistical learning theory. He is the author of nine books and more than 130 papers in refereed journals. He serves on the editorial boards of several international journals. His current research interests are in the broad area of machine learning, with specific focus on statistical learning theory and its applications to various problems in computational biology.

Dr. Sharmila Mande

Dr. Sharmila Mande, Head of the Bio-Sciences Division, holds a Ph. D degree (1991) in Physics from the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore. She had her post-doctoral training at University of Groningen, The Netherlands and University of Washington, Seattle. She worked in Institute of Microbial Technology and Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research in Chadigarh, India, before joining Tata Consultancy Services in 2001. Her research interests include structural biology, protein-protein interaction, comparative genomics, metagenome informatics and mathematical modeling of biological systems.

Dr. Rajgopal Srinivasan

Dr. Rajgopal Srinivasan, Head of the Bio-IT Division,holds a Ph D degree (1991) in organic chemistry from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He has had post-doctoral stints at Eli Lilly & Co, Indianapolis and at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, Baltimore.  He was a research professor in the biophysics department at Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore USA until January 2003 when he joined TCS. His research interests are in the prediction of protein structure and function.

Dr. B. Gopalakrishnan

Dr. B. Gopalakrishnan has a Ph.D in Molecular Biophysics, from the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore. He then worked as a post-doctoral fellow for seven years in the area of structural biology at the Universities of Paris and Cambridge. He served as an Assistant Professor of Medicinal Chemistry for five years at the National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPER). In 2001 he joined Dr. Reddy's Laboratories, Hyderabad to set up their Molecular Modelling and Drug Design department before joining TCS in 2003. His research interests are in the areas of Structural Biology and Drug Design.

Dr. R. Narayanan

Dr. R. Narayanan obtained his Master's degree in Bio-Chemistry and Ph.D degree in Organic Chemistry in 1986 and 1993 respectively, both from the University of Madras. Dr. R. Narayanan, has been involved in drug discovery research in several capacities, in Indian and multinational companies since 1996. He has led medicinal chemistry programs in various therapeutic areas and has wide experience in the areas of hit identification, lead identification, lead optimisation. His research interests are to develop computational models for predicting absorption, distribution, metabolism, excretion and toxicity of new chemical entities , correlation of physical properties of new chemical entities with their biological effects and in silico lead generation.

Dr. Sitarama Brahmam Gunturi

Dr. Ramabrahmam obtained his Master's and Ph.D degrees in Applied Mathematics from Andhra University(1989) and IIT Chennai (1996) respectively. Prior to joining TCS in 2003, he worked with DNAPrint Genomics Inc., a Florida based company and was instrumental in developing the Ancestry Test kit and in solving the Human Eye Colour Classification problem. His interests are to develop variable selection methods and machine learning techniques and to apply them in mining biological data.
